Casa Féteira: The First Olive Oils of Europe

What makes us truly unique

At Casa Feteira, we produce what are known as Azeites Primores (Early-Harvest First Oils). But do you know what makes them so special?

We are proud to produce the very first olive oils of the year in Europe. Our estate, located in the West of Portugal, boasts a unique and distinct microclimate characterized by the following:

  • Atlantic Influence: We enjoy a temperate climate just 18km from the coast of Nazaré.
  • The Mountains: To the east, we are sheltered by the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros and its Natural Park.
  • The Terroir: Our soil is rich in clay and limestone.
  • The Heritage: We grow the Galega Vulgar variety, perfectly adapted to this region. These trees were originally selected in the early 18th century by the Cistercian monks, who inhabited the Monastery of Alcobaça and cultivated vast olive groves along these western slopes.

A Climate Like No Other

These conditions provide us with rainy, humid winters and summers that are never excessively hot. As a result, our soil never suffers from deep drought; there is always moisture deep within the earth.

Because of this, our olive trees rarely face "water stress." They work at a steady, tranquil pace, beginning to develop healthy fats within the olives as early as the start of September. To maximize the oil’s quality and polyphenol count, we harvest earlier than anyone else.

The First to Market in 2025, we began our harvest and the production of our New Organic Olive Oil on 20th September.

In most other major olive-producing regions across Portugal and Spain, the harvest does not begin for another one or two months. This is why our oil is always the first of the year. This unique advantage allows us to enter the market sooner—offering New Oil that is already fully analysed, certified, and bottled long before the rest.

While our competitors still have fruit hanging on their trees, we are already shipping Azeite Novo (New Oil or Early Harvest) to our friends and partners in France, Germany, the Netherlands, and beyond.

The Seal of Purity

We are one of the first ones in our region to have our groves, mill and bottling facilities fully certified as organic. Protecting the natural beauty and qualities of the olives.
